The Feminist
Archive has two locations, the Feminist Archive
North in Leeds (FAN) and the Feminist Archive
South in Bristol (FAS). An AGM and Trustees meeting
was held in the Women’s Library, London,
on 16 October 2010.
Highlights of the year:
-
Public Meeting to
welcome Bolton Women’s Archive
Local Women’s Centres were a backbone
of the Women’s Liberation Movement,
but very few records exist of them and their
activities. That is why we were delighted
to welcome the entire archive of the Bolton
Women’s Centre. FAN assisted them in
preparing a successful bid to the Heritage
Lottery Fund to catalogue their collection.
-
International Women’s
Day Event
The 2010 International Women’s Day
event, 8 March 2010, held in Special Collections,
University of Leeds was open to the general
public and focused on women’s activities
for peace. We showed the Vera Media film,
“Don’t Trust Menwith Balls”.
The Peace Museum in Bradford loaned us an
exhibition on women’s peace activism
during the 20th century. The guest speaker
was Helen John, long time feminist peace campaigner
who was active at Greenham Common and at Menwith
Hill women’s peace camps.
-
Co-op Training day
An open day for co-operative members and FAN
supporters to learn about each others work
was made possible by a grant from the Co-operative
Society. There was a chance to have hands
on experience in archiving.
-
Networking and Outreach
The University of Sussex has inquired about
the type of records held by FAS and we have
supplied lists as part of the Women's Library
WLM network project.
